VIDEO: Corps members storm the street of Sokoto to protest non-payment of allowances.
NYSC corps members serving in Sokoto State stormed the street of the capital on Thursday to protest the non payment of their allowances by the Sokoto State government.
Some of the corps members who spoke on the issue said the option of protest became inevitable when out of the 4 months allowances amounting to N16,000 owed them by the state, only one month had been paid as they looked forward to completing their service year, a situation which did not go down well with the corps members.
Meanwhile, the Sokoto State government may not be held responsible for failure to pay the said allowances as state governments are not under obligation to pay corps members since it is the responsibility of the federal government.
